Dedications: Dave Malone
A LIFETIME OF THANKS
Having done some form or another of this "music-thing" for most of my life, the thanx list is monstrous. Due to my Mom Gerties' insistance upon the practice of at least some form of "manners", I'm sure I've thanked the relevant guilty parties in person , but will attempt to write it out.
From the early days, Mom and my brothers' keen interest in music warrant the biggest thanx. My older brothers, Billy and John ( my parents were not overly creative in the name giving department......4 boys......Billy, John, Dave and Tommy ) got the first guitars from Santa . Billy messed with it a bit but John actually learned it and Tommy and I were the recipients of his guit-knowledge and saintly patience. Later, I learned songs on bass guitar and was allowed to sit-in with his band "The Lucy Bus". Previously I, as a youngster, already knew that I loved singing and entertaining people. My Mom would set me up on the counter of her beauty shop and I'd sing and get given money and hugs and kisses for mangling tunes like "Your Cheating Heart" or "Flying Purple People Eater". Another biggie was Dickie Lees' "Patches" ( I didn't realize until later that the song was about a dead girlfriend/suicide pact ). Anyhow, the hugs and kisses ( and money ) opened the can of worms..and then seeing The Beatles on Ed Sullivan made the decision definite. So...
Firstly: thanx to Mom and my brothers ( Dad just sorta tolerated it ) and Dickie Lee and Ed Sullivan and The Lucy Bus. Oh...and Gordner Kroll, who was the only good guitar player in Edgard ,La. and showed us all a lot, particularly Duane Eddy and Ventures tunes.
Secondly: there are quite a few people who have been most generous with funding. Make no mistake....their involvement is in no way just about money. Their friendship and enthusiastic love of Rads music has helped us through some very rough times. Jeff Altman and Lisa and Kingsley Stoken and Jeff Goldring and the Ricchiuttis and the Cohns and Steven Quat and Candace-Steve and Barney Kilpatrick and Dave Margulies and Chris-Colleen and the Winters Bros and Gary-Shell,the Orlins and Jacq-Steph and all the Krewe folks (Jay Mazza, Elmo-Todd,Scotty,Jon,Rob-Kyle-Larry,Colonel Hogan,Young Neil, the Mermaids,Moses-KungPowPerez and Co., Joe-Pete,Billy B-Howard,Rach-Lynn,Mully-John etcetcetcetc) have literally kept the show on the road.
Thirdly: Sonically, I must thank all the music gear makers and sellers and info sources and repair guys. The kind and generous people at D'Addario, especially Peter D'Addario, Bob Miller and Steve Lobmeier. Michael Weida @ Fender.Trip for making some of my favorite guitars. David @ The ToneQuest Report , Glenn @ Hardtruckers , Analogman, Steve Miller @ LizardLeg Effects, Keeley Electronics, Avatar, RS GuitarWorks, Joe Martin, Home Brew Electronics, Analysis Plus, Don @ Category 5 amps, Kenny Lannes @ KJL, Bill @ Klon, Bob @ Sweetsound, Mike @ Komet Amps, Ted Weber, Paul T, Mike Montero, Jimmy and Paul @ New Orleans Music Exchange, Steve and Dave @ International Vintage Guitars, Todd Sharp @ Nashville Amp Repair, Buzzy @ Lark Street Music and Dan Erlewine. ..And all the others who dedicate their lives to making, modding and fixing amazing music gear!
Fourthly: The "front of scenes" and "behind the scenes" Rads folk. Ken Samuels (pssst....don't tell him...but we'd be lost without him), Josh Abelson, Phil and Shane, Jay Rosenberg, Shannon Chabaud and Jan Bateman, Seth Rappaport @ The Agency Group, Bobby @ UBP ideas, the excellent drawerer - John Parker, Eric Vandercar, John Ross, Dana Honn, Craig Hayes, Irving Schnaider, Krash, Dougie, all the Borsts (especially Felix) and Gerry Gladu.Too many fan/friends to mention...but you know who you are. (Jeez .....what a cop-out ,Dave......no....really...it's not laziness, it's defective memory disorder...you know.....DMD)
Fifthly.... (why am I suddenly thirsty?) : All the musicians and song-writers and music writers and producers and sound engineers who have inspired me over the years, many of whom I've actually gotten to meet and make music with. (BTW, I recently accidentally met a musical hero of mine at the Dallas airport...Ian McLagan, keyboardist with The Small Faces and The Faces and others..Very Cool! )
Sixthly: ( I thank my lucky stars for Sixthly....wait a minute...do I actually have lucky stars??) All of the music fans who have made this whole crazy thing possible! Nuff Said! ( note: for more concise confusion refer to end of Fourthly section ) I really am amazed and grateful for you most excellent humans who fly and drive all over cremation to help us get in the zone! I also need to thank Quint Davis, who has helped us enormously and is possibly the biggest music fan I've ever known.
Lastly....but most definitely not leastly : My wife Beth (can you imagine having to put up with me?) and our kids Johnny, Darcy and Adele and my grandson Patrick, who have allowed me to do this nutty thing for ages and ages and ages and still have the necessary stable home environment to retreat to and re-charge the batteries. "THANK YOU ! ! !"
